🌿 (From someone who loves pretty plants… but can’t keep a cactus alive.)
Let’s get something out of the way: I do not have a green thumb. I’ve lovingly watered plants into early retirement and have accepted that my strengths lie more in real estate than in repotting. But that’s exactly why I rely on trusted reviews, local favorites, and the wisdom of the actual plant people in our community.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just looking to spruce up the front porch with something leafy, these top-rated garden centers in the Lakes Region—based on rave reviews and happy customers—are worth a visit.
1. Pearson’s Greenhouses – Alton, NH
Pearson’s is one of Alton’s best-kept secrets. This family-owned spot has a loyal following for good reason. From perennials to herbs to bonsai (for the overachievers out there), they’ve got a gorgeous, well-curated selection. Reviewers rave about the friendly, helpful staff who know their stuff and are happy to help you figure out what won’t die on your deck.  Looking for more information?  Head to their site here.
2. Appletree Nursery – Winnisquam, NH
This place has been a staple in the community for over 30 years—and the glowing reviews say it all. People love their huge selection, fair prices, and the fact that they grow many of their own plants. They’ve got everything from annuals and shrubs to mulch, stone, and garden tools. Basically, if it grows or goes in the ground, they’ve got it.  Want to check out their site?  Head here.
3. Moulton Farm Garden Center – Meredith, NH
Even I know about Moulton Farm—and not just because of the pies (though yes, those are a perk). This is a one-stop spot for fresh produce and plants that are actually grown right there on the farm. People love their hardy veggie starts, flowering annuals, and wide range of garden tools and accessories. It’s a favorite for both seasoned gardeners and “I think I’ll try tomatoes this year” folks alike.  More information about Moulton Farm can be found here.
4. Cackleberries Garden & Gift Shop – Meredith, NH
This one’s small but mighty—and adorable. Reviewers love the charm, the customer service, and the selection of plants and unique garden gifts. If you like your gardening with a side of quirky finds and local flair, this is your spot.  Check out their website here.
5. Petal Pushers Farm – Laconia, NH
Let’s be real—this is the kind of place I wish I could walk into and know what to do with all the beautiful greenery. With four greenhouses full of flowers and vegetables, plus mulch, compost, and even an antique shop, Petal Pushers is a go-to for locals in the know. Reviewers love the friendly team and the layout that makes it easy to shop even if you don’t know what you’re looking for (guilty).  Looking for more information?  Head here.
